Military voting begins for Nov. 9, special election

WINSTON COUNTY - The process of absentee voting for military personnel started today in preparation for the Nov. 9, special election, which will ask voters to decide whether to renew five mills of property tax benefiting both Winston County and Haleyville City school systems.

WINSTON COUNTY - A resolution passed by the Winston County Commission Monday morning, Aug. 9, means renewing five mills of property tax benefiting both Haleyville City and Winston County schools will now go before county voters to decide in a special election Tuesday, Nov. 9.

WINSTON COUNTY - Windfall funding to the Winston County Board of Education is being used to offset the costs of creating three new positions at the central office, with the filling of those positions causing a complete turnover at schools in Meek and Lynn.

McCay resigns as Winston County Schools CSFO


Morgan Smothers is the new chief school financial officer for Winston County Schools. She will replace Andy McCay, who has resigned to accept the same position at Walker County Schools.
DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Board of Education named Morgan Smothers as the new chief school financial officer due to the resignation of Andy McCay, who has held the CSFO role for the district the past 10 years.

School records to be destroyed

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Winston County Schools will be destroying records of former special education students who have been exited from the school system for five years by June 30.  Anyone wishing to receive their records should contact Lauren Archer, special education coordinator, prior to June 30.
