HHS Theater Class presents interactive murder-mystery play this weekend


The Haleyville High School Theater Class will be bringing two productions, including a murder-mystery live-action Clue game, to the stage at the Heart of Haleyville Park this weekend. HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville High School Theater Class is bringing some murder and mayhem to downtown Haleyville this weekend with two productions, including a live-action Clue-style murder-mystery event with optional public participation.

Haleyville High School Alumni Association has big plans for its 75th anniversary


Haleyville Alumni Association members Candy Hicks Garner and Will Walker of the HHS Class of 1984, are inviting a record crowd to attend this year's alumni luncheon on Saturday, June 6, as well as to keep in mind some important upcoming deadlines about alumni activities.
HALEYVILLE - Plans are already underway for the 2026 Haleyville High School Alumni festivities on Saturday, June 6, with parade grand marshals honoring coaches of all girls from HHS sports winning state titles, as well as a grand observance of the alumni association’s 75th anniversary.

HHS seniors partying like it’s 1999 next week during senior play

HALEYVILLE - For those who remember the Y2K issue in 1999, you will appreciate the comedy and music in this year’s Haleyville High School senior class production, entitled “Party Like It’s 1999.”
This year’s production will have performances for various grade levels of Haleyville City School students Wednesday, Jan. 28, and Thursday, Jan. 29, with the public performance Saturday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m.-- all on the stage at the elementary school cafetorium, organizers said.

Area bands receive budget boosts


Lynn High School Assistant Band Director Sharon Fike, Alabama Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger and LHS Band Director Rodney Fike with a check for $5,000 Gudger donated to the LHS band.

State Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger, who represents the fourth district, has given $5,000 community service grants to every high school band in the district, including those in Winston County and Bear Creek, contributing a total of $90,000 to 18 music programs.
He and his team, including Director of Constituent Affairs Randall Shedd, spent all of Monday, Sept. 8, traveling Cullman, Marion and Winston counties to present checks to the majority of the band programs, a few having received theirs previously.

High school volleyball begins this week

High school volleyball season begins Thursday, Aug. 21.  
Varsity teams are allowed to play 15 dates, according to the Alabama High School Athletic Association.  Area tournaments will take place October 15-18, with regional tournaments following Ocotober 22-24.  The North Regionals - which is where any team in the Alabamian coverage area will compete if they win or come in runner-up at their respective area tournament -  will take place at the Finley Center at the Hoover Met.  The state tournament will take place October 28-30.

Haleyville Alumni luncheon tickets on sale

HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville Alumni Association has announced that tickets for the annual luncheon which is set for Saturday, June 7, at the Haleyville Elementary cafetorium,  are now on sale.  Tickets of $15 may be be purchased at Traditions Florist, BankFirst, Pinnacle Bank and First National Bank.  Very few tickets will be available at the door the day of the luncheon, organizers said. Also, applications are being accepted now for the Alumnus of the Year award, which is presented at the luncheon.

HALEYVILLE - Another school year at Haleyville City Schools has ended, with fond memories of another round of state champion student winners, including DECA, track and a three-peat for the boys golf team.
