G.W. Long beats out Lady Bulldogs for state title

BIRMINGHAM - The  Addison High School Lady Bulldogs (49-15) came up one match short of the seventh straight state title Thursday, Oct. 31, at The Crossplex in Birmingham. But they did take claim to the state runner-up honor.
What is considered as an upset, G.W. Long (49-6), the team that eliminated the Winston County Lady Jackets from the tournament, defeated Addison three sets to one. Addison won the first match 25-18, but G.W. Long went three straight, 25-21, 25-22 and 25-15. This was Long’s first state volleyball title.

BIRMINGHAM - The Winston County High School Lady Jackets, coached by Tiffany Cole,  were  defeated in the quarterfinals of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Elite Eight 2019 state volleyball championships by G.W. Long on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Long won the state title this year in 2A.
The tournament was held at the CrossPlex in Birmingham on Wednesday and finals at the Bill Harris Arena on Thursday.
Stats for the WCHS Lady Jackets were:
Mackenzie Blackwood, 22 kills, 2 digs, 2 aces.

Lady Bulldogs on track for #7; WCHS, Phillips qualify for state tourney

HUNTSVILLE - It was smooth sailing for the feared and revered Addison Lady Bulldogs (47-14). The 2018 2A state volleyball champions won the 2019 north regional tournament Saturday, Oct. 26,  at the Von Braun Center, in Huntsville.
The ladies did not lose a set throughout the tournament. They played against Cold Springs in the first round on Thursday, Oct. 24, winning 25-2, 25-13, 25-6.
In the quarterfinals, Addison blew past Fyffe 25-13, 25-12, 25-15.
Friday saw Addison playing Cedar Bluff in the semi-finals. The Lady Bulldogs won 25-19, 25-6, 25-20.

ADDISON - The Addison Lady Bulldogs captured the 2019 2A Area 13 title on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Addison.
Addison defeated Sulligent in the first match, with Winston County putting down Tharptown. This left the AHS v. WCHS show down, with Addison going three straight sets.

BEAR CREEK - The Phillips High School She Bears are once again 1A Area 14 volleyball champions.
The She Bears defeated Hackleburg and Belgreen Monday night, Oct. 21, in area action at home.
Belgreen put out Covenant Christian in the first match of the night, followed by PHS defeating Hackleburg.
The She Bears captured the area title in the championship match against Belgreen, losing the first set 21-25 and then going three straight 25-12-,25-20,25-18.

Meek Lady Tigers are 1A Area 12 volleyball champions


The Meek Lady Tigers of Arley captured the 1A Area 12 volleyball championship at Marion County High School recently. CURRY - The Haleyville Lady Lions were eliminated from the area tournament Monday, Oct. 21, in Curry. HHS lost in three straight sets, 25-18, 25-8, 28-26.

BEAR CREEK - It was a night of memories and victories, as the Phillips She Bears honored their seniors and took wins over Lynn and Tharptown Tuesday, Oct. 15.
The PHS She Bears won in straight sets over both teams defeating the LHS Lady Bears 25-12 and 25-13. The She Bears won 25-21 and 25-17 over The Lady Wildcats.
