Bradbury signs track scholarship with Montevallo


Matthew Bradbury, a senior at Phillips High School, signed a track scholarship with the University of Montevallo. BEAR CREEK - Matthew Bradbury’s three years of track and field at Phillips High School has earned him a scholarship to the University of Montevallo.
Bradbury, who is a 1A state champion in the discus throw, signed a scholarship at the Attie Fleming Complex on the PHS campus on Tuesday, March 5. He will do indoor and outdoor track for the Falcons. Family, friends, schoolmates and school administration were on hand for the event.
Bradbury is a multi-sport athlete, also playing football and basketball.

Lady Bears come back to win 11-10 over She Bears

LYNN - The Phillips She Bears had a 9-5 lead in the fifth inning after Lexie Dishner hit a homerun over the left field fence Monday, March 4. But the Lynn Lady Bears kept chipping away at the score to win 11-10 on an RBI by Morgan Foster to score Hannah Alsup in the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Bears scored 5 runs in the first inning, 1 in the fifth, 4 in the sixth and the winning run in the seventh. Pitcher Morgan Foster took the win. The She Bears scored 1 run in the first, 1 in the third, 5 in the fourth, 2 in the fifth and 1 in the seventh.

PHS She Bears win 66-48 over the Westminster Lady Knights Monday in semi-final action

BIRMINGHAM - The Phillips She Bears played their game Monday, Feb. 25,  against Westminster-Oak Mountain to win the state semi-final basketball game at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center. The She Bears won 66-48 over the Lady Knights and will play Skyline in the championship game Thursday, Feb. 28 at 4 p.m., at the BJCC.

PHS routs Belgreen 83-38 for area championship title

The Lady Bears hosted Covenant Christian in the subregional round Monday, Feb. 11, defeating them 81-34. The Lady Bears will play Decatur Heritage on Thursday, Feb. 14, at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville.

GUIN – Phillips’ earned its third consecutive Marion County Varsity Girls Basketball title with a 67-40 win over Winfield on Friday, Jan. 25.
The game was between two of the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Top 5 teams in Classes 1A and 3A.
The She Bears entered the contest ranked No. 4 in Class 1A while the Lady Pirates were the second-ranked team in Class 3A.

PCHS takes wins over Phillips

BEAR CREEK - The Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats won a narrow victory over the Phillips High School She Bears Monday, Jan. 28, at PHS, in Bear Creek, by a score of 77-75.
The Lady Bobcats had a first half lead at halftime by a score of 36-30. The She Bears erased that lead in the third period, taking a two point advantage, 53-51. It was a battle to the end with the Lady Bobcats winning 77-75.

PHS girls, WCHS boys win basketball games

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Phillips High School Lady Bears and the Winston County Jackets were the winners Tuesday, Dec. 18, in basketball action played at the WCHS gym. The Lady Bears won 66-39, with the Jackets winning 59-48.
Scoring for the Phillips Lady Bears were: Baily Bishop 4; Gracie Hallman 11, including 1 three-pointer; Ally McCollum 26; Lexie Dishner 12; Amber Markham 6, including 1 three-pointer; Mary Ashton Hyde 2; Caitlin Martin 1 three-pointer; Allie Veal 2.

Phillips wins 1A Area 14 tournament

BEAR CREEK - Ranked third in the state 1A volleyball and a season record of 35-8, the Phillips Lady Bears won the 1A Area 14 tournament.
All-Tournament players were Lexie Dishner, Amber Markham and Baily Bishop.
