Phillips gets first win over Shoals Christian

FLORENCE - The Phillips Bears used a big game from senior running back Hunter Lanford to propel their way to a 27-14 win over the Flame of Shoals Christian.
The victory over the Flame marked the Bears’ first win of the 2019 campaign.
Lanford finished the game with three scores, one through the air and two on the ground, to lead the Bears’ offensive efforts. He also had a fumble recovery and eight solo tackles on the defensive side of the ball.

Phillips wins tri-match with Meek, Hackleburg

BEAR CREEK - The Phillips She  Bears were on task Thursday, Sept. 26, winning matches over Meek and Hackleburg in straight sets at home.
PHS and Hackleburg played first, with the She Bears winning 25-8, 25-13 and 25-15.
Meek and Hackleburg were next on the court, with the MHS Lady Tigers winning in two straight, 25-16, 25-15.
Phillips and Meek ended the night, with PHS leading the score board 25-16, 25-14.
Stats for the She Bears in the Meek game were:

Lynn opens season with win over Phillips

LYNN - The Lynn Bears used a stout defensive effort to secure a season opening 26-14 win over Phillips High School.
Lynn put up the first score of the night and wouldn't trail for the remainder of the contest. Lynn found pay dirt on their second drive of the night, after fielding a punt on their own 25, the Bears went to work on a 12-play drive that was capped by an 8-yard scamper from Brandon Hill run around the right side. The two-point try was no good, leaving the score at 6-0 with just over four minutes left in the opening quarter.

Phillips captures area runner-up slot to advance to regional

BELGREEN - The Phillips High School She Bears are  headed to regionals Thursday, May 9, at Bowers Park in Tuscaloosa.
The She Bears lost to the Hackleburg Lady Panthers in the first game of the 1A area 11 area tournament held at Belgreen recently. PHS then played Vina  and won 17-2, followed by Hackleburg again and won 12-11.
The She Bears lost in the championship game to Belgreen 13-0.

PHS fishing teams do well in qualifier


Wesley Williams and Matthew Chambers took three fish to the scales for a total weight of 7.90 pounds, giving them a 30th place finish in the senior division field made up of 192 boats.

The Phillips Fishing Team, known as Bear Creek Bass Anglers, competed in the Alabama Students Angler Bass Fishing Association’s spring qualifier on Lake Neely Henry on March 23. Three boats were sent - one junior
division, two senior division.

Garrett Hyde and Chase Burton finished the junior division, which had a total of 14 boats. They placed 7th with a weight of 1.74 pounds from one fish.

Lynn Lady Bears slides into a 11-2 blow-out win over Phillips


Breanna Barton was the winning pitcher for the Lynn Lady Bears.

The Lynn Lady Bears softball team easily dispatched the Phillips She Bears 11-2 on Monday, April 1.

Breanna Barton was the winning pitcher for the Lady Bears. She lasted six innings, allowing one hit and one run while striking out 13. Chloe Gilliland threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Phillips takes 2 out of 3 in series with Hackleburg

BEAR CREEK  - The Phillips Bears won two out of three game with the Hackleburg Panthers March 11-12.
In game one, Phillips won 9-5 at home. Ken Edwards got the win on the mound. He went three for three, with four stolen bases, as well. Jacob Cagle had two hits, with two RBIs. Wesley Williams had one hit with a RBI. Brady Long got two hits and Logan Cagle had one hit, with Levi Hall one hit and a RBI.
