Free football camp offered June 16-23

HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville Youth Football League is offering a free camp for ages five years old to high school. The camp will be held Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 22, from 6 to 8 p.m.. On Saturday, June 23, the final day, camp time will be from 8 a.m. until noon at the rear softball field behind the Neighborhood Facilities Building. On June 23, Jarius Williams, a former Ole Mississippi football player, as well as a member of the Parrish High School state championship team will be at the camp. Members of the semi-professional football team P Town Wreckaz, from Walker County will there also.

Registration will be under way that Saturday for the youth football league, for ages 4 through 12 years old. Cost to register is $50 for football and $25 for cheerleaders. The $25 does not include the cost of the uniform. An up-to-date photo of the child will be needed, as well as a copy of the birth certificate.

Sizing for uniforms will also be conducted on that Saturday. Chris Bell, with the HYFL said fundraisers  are currently under way to help raise money to pay for expenses such as uniforms. There are also corporate sponsors helping as well. Bell said those 5 to 12 will be covered under the league  liability insurance.

Bell said volunteer coaches and staff are still needed for all league divisions.
Bell indicated that all coaches and staff are required to be certified in Heads Up Concussion Protocol Training. They also have background checks. “We have a very good staff,” Bell said.
