McCollum inks scholarship with Shorter

BEAR CREEK - There were lots of smiles and tears as Ally McCollum signed her basketball scholarship with Shorter University Friday, Nov. 22, marking the start of a new chapter in her life.
Ally, a senior at Phillips High School in Bear Creek, will play for the Division 2 college in Rome, Georgia.
A scholarship signing ceremony was conducted in the PHS gym with students, teammates, faculty, friends  and family all on hand. She received a big round of applause as she signed on the dotted line.

McCollum, Blackwood recognized by AHSAA as top performers

MONTGOMERY - Phillips High School volleyball standout Ally McCollum and Winston County High School all star Mackenzie Blackwood have been recognized as a top performer by the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Volleyball Sportlight.

McCollum had 61 kills and seven blocks to spark the Bears (19-14) to the championship of the Marion County Tournament.

McCollum and Hallman participate in Elite 100

 Two local basketball players, Allie McCollum and Gracie Hallman, of Phillips High School, were issued invitations to the  100 girls basketball player to participate in the Elite Basketball Showcase, according to Jamie Lee, director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association.
The Boys’ Showcase was held at Hoover High School and the Girls’ Showcase at Spain Park High School, on June 22.

McCollum, Hallman selected to First AHSADCA Elite 100 Basketball Showdown June 22

MONTGOMERY – Jamie Lee, director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association, announced  invitations have been issued to 100 boys and  100 girls basketball players who will participate in the AHSADCA’s Basketball Showcase planned for June 22. Ally McCollum and Gracie Hallman of Phillips High School, in Bear Creek, are among the invited from the Northwest Alabamian’s coverage area.
