ADDISON - Sherry Dianne Reagan, 58, of 220 County Road 3730, was arrested by the Winston County Sheriff's Office early Friday, March 2, facing charges of manslaughter, in the death of her ex-boyfriend Gary Kenneth Aderholt, 61, who sustained injuries allegedly caused by Reagan during a domestic altercation that occurred at her residence.

ADDISON - Students at Addison Elementary School received a big boost, not only to ignite their joy of reading but also to reach their goals to make dreams come true, during a special visit Friday, March 2, from Addison High School graduate Jesse Wiggins, who tours the circuit with the Bassmaster Pro Elite Series.

Parents meeting set for girls interested in tryouts for majorette or color guard at HHS

HALEYVILLE - Parents of any girls who are entering the ninth grade and above for the 2018-19 school year at the Haleyville High School are invited  to attend a meeting Wednesday, March 7, at 5 p.m., in the HHS bandroom if your daughters are interested in trying out for majorette or color guard.
Majorette sponsor Amy Farris said she hopes to see many in attendance. “We are excited about the 2018 marching season,” said Mrs. Farris.

HALEYVILLE - A one-vehicle  accident occurred Tuesday, March 6, around 10:30 a.m. on Highway 195 east of Haleyville across from Winston Memorial Cemetery. Haleyville Police Department officers responded, but  troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency are investigating. Watch for more details concerning the accident.

Sophomore Mallory Rushing was crowned Haleyville High School's 2018 senior Leo's Loveliest. The pageant, featuring 40 young ladies, was held in the Haleyville Elementary School cafetorium Saturday, March 3. Top Five included Megan Smith, 1st alternate; Kayleigh White, 2nd alternate; Lauren Watkins, 3rd alternate; Kaley Stevens, 4th alternate.

Top Five included Kirsten Stevens, 1st alternate; Emma Elkins, 2nd alternate; Macy Seymour, 3rd alternate and Kaitlyn Burleson, 4th alternate.

$200,000 Clean Diesel grant to purchase 10 new buses

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Board of Education was notified Feb. 21, they are receiving a $200,000 grant through the National Clean Diesel Rebate Program through the Environmental Protection Agency, that will be used to purchase 10 new school buses for their fleet.

ARLEY - The body of Jerrell Cates Rogers, 73, former minister of music at Arley First Baptist Church, and a mentor to all who knew him, was found in his Nissan pickup submerged in a pond off County Road 3986 a quarter mile from his residence late Monday night, Feb. 26.

HALEYVILLE - Lauren Tinker, representing the Mark Forester Foundation, made a special presentation at the regular meeting of the Haleyville Board of Education Tuesday, Feb. 27, presenting a framed picture of soldier Mark Forester--who died in the line of duty while serving in Afghanistan in 2010--to HCS teacher Denise Berry for her avid support and annual participation in the Mark Forester Race held in honor of Mark at the school campus.
