ALEA states all county roads in Winston County still impassable
Winston County offices remain closed Friday
DOUBLE SPRINGS- All Winston County offices remain closed Friday, January 19, after a week of closures due to weather, announced Commissioner David Cummings. Plans are to reopen offices on Monday, January 22, with an emergency commission meeting set 9:45 am, at the courthouse, Cummings added.
Winston County Sheriff's officials have been working with local fire departments, ALEA troopers, and municipal law enforcement agencies this week helping motorists either stranded or having minor accidents due to icy roadways, according to Sheriff's Investigator Jacob Eward.
All Haleyville roads to refreeze, become impassable
HALEYVILLE - Due to the threat of City streets refreezing, Mayor Ken Sunseri is deeming all roads impassible including the major highways such as 13, 195 and 129. The city's garbage schedule will be posted when employees can return to work. Plans are for employees to return to work by 10 am Thursday, January 18, weather permitting, the major says. The community safe room, which has been open as a warming station, will be closed at noon Thursday, the mayor added.
Bear Creek, Haleyville set council meeting times
BEAR CREEK - Bear Creek Mayor Rob Taylor has announced that their council meeting scheduled for tonight, Wednesday, January 17 at 5:30 will take place as usual Any updates will be posted on the website weather-related this afternoon. Taylor also said that the Alabama Department of Transportation is working to clear the major Highway 13, but city streets were still deemed impassable.
Marion County roads still deemed impassable
County roads still deemed impassable today
WINSTON COUNTY - As of Wednesday morning, January 17, all Winston County roads were still deemed impassable, according to the Winston County Commission.
"We are just as anxious for this weather to break as anyone else, but with sub-freezing temperatures this morning and throughout most of the day today, we’re still deeming Winston County Roads impassable for right now," Winston County Commissioner for District 1 Rutger Hyche posted on his Facebook page.
Winston County, Haleyville city roads still deemed impassable
WINSTON COUNTY - According to separate messages shared on social media by the Winston County Sheriff's Office and the City of Haleyville Mayor's Office, roads throughout Winston County are predominately still impassable. Residents are being urged to remain at home and to be extremely careful if they do get to drive.
Main Street Ministries closed due to weather
DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Double Springs location of Main Street Ministries on Highway 33 will be closed today, Tuesday, January 16,due to treacherous travel conditions, announced board president JD Snoddy. The center will continue operations as usual next Tuesday,January 23, 1-6 pm, Snoddy said.
City, county garbage collection postponed until road conditions improve
WINSTON COUNTY - Winston County Sanitation Department has postponed garbage collection for Tuesday, January 16, until roads are deemed passible after wintry weather, reports commissioner David Cummings.
Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri stated there is much uncertainty on when City offices will reopen Tuesday. If City streets do not improve enough to reopen, city services such as garbage collection will remain halted.
